Interview: Romana Umrianova @ Supreme

16 year old Slovakian model Romana Umrianova, who wears gold better than the queen herself, is one of the very few new models who looks like straight being from otherworldy dimensions. Dolce & Gannana and Lanvin could convinve themselves to book Romana for runway shows and Japanese magazines went crazy for the redhead not long ago. Read the last & definitely most interesting post of this week on Digital Diamons; Questions for Romana and answers for us.

Where are you from and how did you start out?
I am from Slovakia. At the beginning I was approached by some agencies on the street a couple of times, then I started to think seriously about modeling. I decided to join Elite Prague.

Is it important for you to always believe in yourself and not to compare to other models?
Yes, definitely. You never know, what exactly your client prefers.

How do you feel about people giving you compliments about your look & work?
I'ts alwasy nice to hear any compliments. It makes you feel like you have a chance among all of the other girls.

Favourite show so far?
Lanvin. it was the biggest show I have walked so far and the whole spirit of the show was awesome.

Tell us something about the Japanese industry.
I guess its much more easer to book a job in Japan. You usually just need to look and act very cute.

How do you manage to stay cool on the runway?
It can be pretty scary, so usually, when I am on a stage I dont think very much about how many people are looking at me. I probably should think about every my moves and my especially expressions, but this could make me very nervous. I just put on my face number 8 and there is always a song on my mind. lol

Who taught you things like how to catwalk?
When I started, I had really big problems with catwalking. It was really challenging and I had to learn it very quickly. I definitely couldn't have learned it without the aid of my agencies.

First thing you did after getting home from fashion week in September?
I met my family and friends because I haven't seen them long time.

Do you think that a model can only be successful if she's backed by a top agency?
I cant really tell, it's very good for a model when she can work with experienced professionals, though.

What do you like better for the moment?
Shootings are great like when you are in a good mood with your photographer. However, there are some really demanding shootings, for instance when you do summer colection shootings on a cold winter day. Basically, I prefer shows; there is more action going on :)

Your last job?
It was a shooting in Paris for xxxxxxx (be prepared readers!!!!;)), I cant wait for the pictures. The shooting was very nice. We were three girls from the Lanvin cast wearing dresses and just standing still while Mr. Alber Elbaz was making some funny poses around us.

The best and worst experience you've made due to your job as a model yet?
I dont remember the bad ones, haha. But anyway.. every experience is in some way good.

Thank you Romana, we definitely look forward to seeing your upcoming work!

Interview: Julija Steponaviciute @ Baltic Model MGMT

When revelation of beauty and desire for chocolate cause to happen a big change in life, it can only be one thing that is explicable as fate. When you book a Gucci show at the age of 14, shoot a Vogue Italia editorial and walk for Calvin Klein and Dolce Gabbana one year later it’s obviously more than just "being at the proper time at the proper place” and truly the result of ambition, talent and great timing as well as stand-out management starting from Lithuania’s top agency ‘Baltic Model Management’. As such, we’re sure that this was just the beginning of everything. Thank you very much for taking the time, Juliya!

Interview: Modelwerk

Everyone has heard of this name at least once. And everyone connects it to beautiful girls with astounding careers. Models like Anja Rubik, Siri Tollerod or Behati Prinsloo are represented by Modelwerk in Germany. But it's not only about getting work for already renowned girls - Modelwerk is also known for scouting true german diamonds, ready to be formed and smoothed for their future careers. Anne Sophie Monrad is one of them. Featured as Model of the Week at the moment, Anne already made her debut at the NYFW this season and heading right to Paris afterwards. Sounds promising, we think. And of course, especially since it was Midolo herself who discovered Miss Toni Garrn, her agency is now for sure, and deservedly, one of Germanys biggest talent factories. Commercial or high fashion - Modelwerk knows what is best for their girls. We had the pleasure to conduct an interview with Claudia Midolo - head of the agency and responsible for many successfull careers.

Newface Madness: Mathilda & Grace

It’s been a long time since we’ve introduced a new face on Digital Diamonds. So now we’ll present two amazing brunettes, both represented by seeDS in Berlin.

On the one hand we have Mathilda Milli. Her speaking likeness to the young Freja Beha Erichsen is just the same striking as her hair. True beauty!

Second girl of the day does really live up to her (pre)name: Grace Montana who slightly made us think of Maria Babikova.

Two girls, ready to take the fashionworld by storm!

Claire has heard the Claudia Schiffer comparison quite a lot already. And we are sure, she should better get used to it - because Claudia obviously got some serious competition now ;)
Thanks a lot for taking the time and answering our questions Claire!

Interview: Code Model Management

Code Model Management is a Dutch boutique agency located in Amsterdam. Administered by the agency owners Rick van Wolferen & Marit Simons, Code Model Management provides both, an approach that is personalized to every single model and a global-scale network composed of top-rated clients + market-leading agencies.

Almost one year ago, Code Model Management’s first protégée caused a great stir by booking the Prada Spring 2009 campaign shot by Steven Meisel, thus a star was born, 17yo Nimue Smit. Good to know, that Nimue’s success wasn’t an occasion for both to rest on their laurels, though; SS2010 was the first runway season for another Code-girl, Iris, who debuted on Missoni's runway in Milan some weeks ago.
It is high time to know what there is behind Amsterdam’s factory that makes models' dreams come true.

Interview: Kelli Lumi @ Major

Kelli Lumi from Estonia debuted at Jill Stuarts in 2005; It’s obvious that she doesn’t belong to a sort of girls who’re just booked due to overassessment and disappear after 2 seasons enjoying an quite high level of attention. The reputation she’s built by now is just based on both a great deal of potential and a combative spirit which made it possible for her to create a small but powerful customer base involving top-rated clients like John Galliano, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen for an enduring career in this industry.
